Rope Horses – Dick’s horses

Snort

Snort is Dick’s first horse.  A bit too much horse for him to start with,
but hey ….. he was a started rope horse.  Snort loves to rope, he
loves to pull.  At 17 in 2007 he is one heck of a horse.  He had some
head issues when he came to live with us.  Remember one night Dick
spent over 40 minutes trying to remove his bridle without taking it
apart.  Snort had issues.  Poor guy.  Now he just loves to stand and
have his ears and head rubbed.  Snort is a tough little bugger to ride
as he’s always on the muscle and thinks he needs to be in that 4 wheel
drive mode all the time.  But when he does relax he is a real pleasure.
Snort is a grade horse.

Nick

Nick, Sir Nicholas, Nicker, is our 1994 breeding stock (black/bay)
paint by Rob Roy Sonny Dee out of Miss Rocky Bars.  We can’t get
over how he’s growed up from a long haired, wormy, skinny thing that
we brought home.  Far, far from skinny now, Nick is a gorgeous boy
with an absobutlely beautiful head and neck.  Lots of bone and brains.
We both scratch our heads and wonder why we did and then are so
thankful that we did, he was a mess.  Guess we were blessed with an
inner sight at what was there.

Nick is our “let’m ride Nick” horse.  Anyone can ride Nick.  He is the
ultimate babysitter.

He came to us just barely broke.  Unfortunately, he came with a very
active tail and it has been something that he just hasn’t lost. Dick has
worked long and hard with Nick and the results are really showing.
Nick has become very aggressive in the roping pen and is really
running hard to the cattle and giving Dick constant chances to rope.
Although he isn’t the puller that Snort is, he is a lot easier on the
body.  Nick is a gorgeous boy; he is a Red Sonny Dee Bar son out of a
thoroughbred mare.

Scoria

WR Scoria is a 2000 red roan quarter horse gelding out of Benito Leo
Bar by Texas High Dasher.  Dick saw him as a baby and fell in love.
So, he came to live with us as a late weanling.  Scoria has attitude.
Which Dick says is a good thing for a rope horse.  Scoria is deceivingly
fast and loves to be ridden.

Dick has started Scoria heading.

Scoria is a great all around riding horse and Nancy took him to the
Northern Lights Barrel Futurity (www.nlfuturity.com) and Naeric Barrel
Futurity in 2005.  We were really pleased with his performance since
she was going thru chemo and radiation at the time so he really didn’t
have experience being out in the pen.

Scoria might go to a couple derbies in 2007, all depending if he gets
any barrel riding.

Atty

Dolls Peppy Attitude, aka “The Blonde”.  Born 2001 out of Dolls Filly
Jac by Solanos Peppy San.  And we thought Snort had 4 wheel drive.
Wow.  Atty just has to go, go, go.  Although we try to get it thru her
head, slow is better, she thinks fast is the way to go.  She is extremely
smart and really wants to work.  A reiner who didn’t make it, Atty is now
going to be a header and hopefully barrel horse as she sure has the
speed and agility.  She absolutely loves to be around cattle and we’re
hoping working with them will help slow her down abit and realize that
she can’t think as fast as she can run.
